3 Reasons Why Change is A Good Thing (Even When You Think it is Not)

According to the Oxford Dictionary definition, the word “change” is defined as to “make (someone or something) different; alter or modify” and to “substitute one thing for (another)”. When some of us think of a change either sudden or expected, different feelings can arise as a result of the thought. There could be feelings of excitement, curiosity, surprise or dread.  At times, looking at change through a more open perspective can make adjusting to such events less burdensome, even worthwhile.

Change Can Break Us Out of Our Routine.

When we are used to a daily, weekly or monthly routine, it can feel comfortable and familiar. However, with this comfort level, there is also the risk of becoming complacent and going through life on autopilot in thought, word and action. Being on autopilot, can also put one’s mind in a fog, distracting from new and creative ideas or the opportunity to be inspired. In some cases, even when change is asked or hoped for, it then could be met with doubt, uncertainty, and fear. In order to move past these hurdles, it is always helpful to be reminded of the pros of change, and what a difference that perspective can make in our daily lives.

Change Can Help Us Start Over

Change may come in many forms at any given time. This could include the start of a new relationship, the ending of a previous relationship that served its purpose, the completion of a career path, or a new addition to the family. These changes can ignite in us various feelings, goals or aspirations that were once dormant.  Change can become the catalyst of starting that new business idea from years before. Change can bring the opportunity to face pent-up emotions that should be addressed and healed in order to move forward. A new path can ignite the courage needed to rise to the challenge of a new beginning.

Change can Help Realize the Things that are the Most Important to Us.

At times, the best way to figure out what we do want, is to experience changes and remain honest with ourselves about the effect this may have on us. It probably isn’t until someone goes through a string of situations, that the things that were once thought of as vital, can seem to fall away and make room for things that are most important to have a full life. Whether it is more time with loved ones, your intentional investment into your overall health, or making everyday count with purpose, change can bring about clarity, and with clarity, we can realize the things that we can appreciate and be grateful for.

Overall, change will always be a part of the various phases of life. However, looking at some of the positive aspects that can be associated with change can enrich one’s perspective and life.
